Sea waves are unique in the duality of their existence. They are fleeting yet eternal with their ebb and flow. The sound of sea waves can invoke a serene calmness and relaxation or fear and mortal dread when violently stirred. In medieval Japan the “katana” was symbol of peace, power and order but when in the wrong hands could be used for chaos, death and destruction. Our Sea Wave Katana and Wakizashi from Dragon King embody similar dualities in their existence. The placid blue saya conceals a rippling folded steel blade featuring bo-hi (groove) collared by a silver hibaki and notched seppa. The hada and hamon mirror the silver turbulent waves depicted by the tsuba, kashira and fuchi. Silver and gold menuki contrast against the dark blue tsuka handle wrap overlaid on white same (ray skin). A blue sageo completes the saya, accented by buffalo horn kurikata and koiguchi. The Sea Wave Katana & Wakizashi feature another duality between being formidable weapons and works of art. (Sageo colors may vary) Collect the set; a samurai wore two swords, the matching Sea Wave Wakizashi is also available to complete your collection. Please note: the katana, wakizashi or tanto’s sageo (cord) on the saya (scabbard) may not be wrapped as pictured.
