New and improved!
The Practical Katana returns with all the features that made it a great katana but with some great improvements.
Keeping with our promise for upgrades and advancement, the new Practical Katana now features a removeable tsuka (handle) whereas its predecessor was glued. The crisp and clean new look of the furniture (tsuba, fuchi, kashira, menuki) comes from the new tooling of this classic design. Still featuring the blade geometry of the differentially hardened and forged 1566 forge steel blade and the synthetic handle components which make it economical and durable, the Practical Katana enters a new chapter of renovation for the next generation of practitioners.
The Practical Katana is a great entry-level katana for those who wish to start with tameshigiri and other cutting sword arts. Without the cost of a traditionally made katana and the all-natural handle component that shrink and swell from perspiration from your hands and humidity from your environment, the Practical Katana allows you to enjoy katana ownership without the excessive maintenance that comes with it. And once you’ve made thousands of cuts with it, you can get another or sharpen it with modern conventional means.
The Practical Katana has been the standard in the Japanese sword industry since its introduction since the early 2000s. It's highly imitated but never truly replicated by the competition. You can purchase with confidence in CAS Hanwei brand swords with our four decades of knowledge and expertise in manufacturing.
Made formerly at the legendary Hanwei forge that closed in 2024, the famed artisans of Dalian at the Dragon King forge take the mantle of this legendary brand. Former protégé of Paul Chen and original engineer of the manufacturing of the Hanwei brand, Frenchie Jin knows these swords better than anyone else as he was a part or their original conception at the original Hanwei Metal Factory. The CAS Hanwei brand couldn’t be in better manufacturing hands for the future.
Please note: the katana, wakizashi or tanto’s sageo (cord) on the saya (scabbard) may not be wrapped as pictured. Sageo color may vary.
