Pioneer Camp and Bushcraft Knife
Kizlyar Supreme's Pioneer takes it's design cues from the old school knives of the true mountain men that depended on their knives for woodcraft, cooking and all manner of daily tasks. These knives were typically simple carbon steels, ground from thin stock and featured simple blocky grips of wood for scales. The Pioneer improves on this design with a full tang blade of Sleipner steel from Germany with a full flat grind and a sharp spine for scraping. The blade is ground to just .018" before sharpening, which makes food prep a breeze. The grind and steel choice however keep that edge stable for the harder tasks of wildcraft; wood carving and fire prep.
The handle is caucas walnut harvested close to the town of Kizlyar and is contoured for comfort. A slight forward and rear guard keeps the hand in place securely while keeping the edge close to the forwar finger for excellent control. A full leather sheath is included that can either be worn directly on the belt or using the included dangler.
The Pioneer may just be our new favorite all around camp and bushcraft knife!
About Sleipner Steel
Made in Germany by Bohler Uddeholm, Sleipner tool steel was developed to be a better D2. Under certain conditions at high hardness levels D2 can have a tendency to micro-chip. Sleipner offers many of the advantages as a high hardness tool steel like D2 while offering a much more stable edge. It also offer good wear resistance at high hardness levels, meaning it can take and hold an edge quite well. Sleipner has a lower Chromium content than D2, and it is recommended to keep the blade oiled to help resist surface corrosion.
