Guardian Katana; T10 tool steel "Lion-Dog" Katana
Another exceptional katana from Kaneie Sword Art, the Guardian is part of the Menkyo Collection of higher end swords from Kaneie. This sword features a classic theme of Shishi (Lion Dog) Guardians. Statues of Shishi are seen in Japan at the entrance of many temples and homes, usually in pairs, to ward off demons from entering and good from leaving.
The silver-plated Fuchi and Kashira and steel tsuba complete the lion dog theme. The medium length handle is wrapped in a bright red silk ito from Japan that feels exceptional in hand. The polished saya is lacquered in a deep red with flecks of black in a random splatter pattern. A matching red sageo is included.
The blade is differentially hardened T10, hand polished in the traditional manner to a full "art" polish. Details in the hamon are exquisite and must be seen in person to truly appreciate. The blade is a well balanced cutter, with healthy niku (appleseed edge geometry).
