Budo III - Tough Cutting Katana

**NOTE: This sword (model SE3014A) features one mekugi pin in the handle as a limited variant to the two pin Budo III Katana. In a well made katana such as these the tsuka is carved as a friction fit to the tang and the addition of the second mekugi is purely personal preference. This is also a much more traditional offering as true Japanese made katana (Nihonto) would only feature a single mekugi. This is the only difference between the two swords.

This sword features a no-frills but highly functional and well shaped set of furniture. The cotton ito is tight with well spaced diamond pattern over genuine ray skin.

The Batto Collection from Kaneie Sword Art feature a through-hardened blade of high carbon 1060 steel. The edge is sharp and the shape is traditional making for an excellent cutting sword.

Through-hardening a sword blade (as opposed to the traditional differential hardening) makes an overall tougher blade that sacrifices the ultimate edge hardness and beauty of a hamon (temper line). But for pure utilitarian use and practice a well heat treated through-hardened blade is hard to beat.
